Prevention & Intervention
Denton ISD counseling and social work provide various prevention and intervention services. Each campus recognizes the needs of staff, students, and the community. The counseling and social work department strives to provide services that support healthy development and academic achievement. Under the Texas Education Code, several prevention and intervention topics are mandated each school year. Developmentally appropriate prevention and intervention education lessons are created by the committee. Each unit has been reviewed and approved by the Denton ISD Student Health Advisory Council and the Board of Education (SHAC). These prevention and intervention education lessons were designed using evidence-based resources and aligned with the Texas Education Code. These units will be implemented as classroom presentations by the Counseling and Social Work department.Denton ISD values parent/guardian partnership in learning. We support parents/guardians as the primary educators of their children. As a parent/guardian, you have the right to preview all mandated prevention and intervention education materials. Elementary Lessons: Pre-K - 5

Essential 8 Skills
Elementary (Pre K-5th) District Guidance Lessons - Essential 8
Denton ISD schools will use the district lessons for the Essential 8 skills for learning throughout the school year in pre-kindergarten - 5th grade.
All Essential 8 lessons align with the Texas Positive Character Trait TEKS and the Texas Model Program Curriculum Scope and Sequence.**Contact your campus Professional School Counselor for dates and times of guidance lessons or any questions regarding lessons.**

Denton ISD Mandated Lessons
Pre-K to 5th District Lessons
DISD schools will use the district lessons for the following mandated topics:
- Emotional Wellness - Suicide Prevention (TEC 38.351)
- Bullying and Cyberbullying Prevention (TEC 37.0832)
- Healthy Choices - Substance Abuse Prevention (TEC 38.351)
- Developmentally appropriate lessons will be delivered throughout the school year in pre-kindergarten - 5th.
All lessons align with the Texas Education Code (linked above), Texas Positive Character Trait TEKS and the Texas Model Program Curriculum Scope and Sequence.

Healthy Relationships - Require Active Consent
Pre-K to 5th Healthy Relationships Lessons
DISD schools will use the Children’s Advocacy Center of North Texas (CACNT) lessons for anti-victimization and healthy relationships.
Parents/guardians must complete a Consent Form as part of Student Registration to participate in the CACNT lessons.
All lessons align with the Texas Education Code 38.004, Senate Bill 9, Texas Positive Character Trait TEKS and the Texas Model Program Curriculum Scope and Sequence.
Secondary Lessons: 6th - 12th

College, Career & Military Readiness
DISD middle schools will use the district lessons for the grade-level areas of knowledge from college, career, and military readiness (CCMR).
All CCMR lessons align with the Texas Positive Character Trait TEKS and the Texas Model Program Curriculum Scope and Sequence.
