    • Inclement Weather Policy

In the event of bad weather, Denton ISD considers the safety of our 33,335 students and more than 4,500 employees in our 183 square-mile district when making decisions about the school day. Administrators closely monitor weather predictions, consult with neighboring districts, and stay in contact with our transportation managers in order to make the best decision possible with the information available.

It is possible for weather and road conditions to vary greatly across the 18 municipalities served by Denton ISD. For that reason, parents are the ultimate decision-makers on whether or not their students will attend school, and should notify the school as they would for any absence if the parent chooses to keep their student home.

School will not automatically be canceled due to inclement weather.

The decision to physically close our school buildings due to inclement weather is made prior to 6 a.m. when possible.

The closing of school buildings will be reported on the Denton ISD website, X account, and Facebook page; major local media outlets will also be contacted. Denton ISD uses an automated system to notify families via phone and text message. Please be sure to have your current contact information on file with the school your child attends. If you have multiple children, make sure your contact information is current at all necessary Denton ISD campuses.

It is important to remember that Denton ISD will only inform families of delayed opening times or school cancellations. If no information is given from the district or media outlets, our school buildings will be open to students and staff at their regularly scheduled times.
